City to stop enforcing public camping rule pending review

A day after advocates for the homeless staged a “sleep-in” to protest ticketing people who bed down in public parks, the city’s police chief announced he has suspended enforcement of laws barring camping in public parks until those codes can be reviewed.

Ricky Haves and four friends had hunkered down on the porch at Crossroads Urban Center last Sunday — only to be roused at dawn by a city police officer who told them to move on, they were trespassing.
