On January 7, the District held its kick-off meeting for the 2010-2011 Student Code of Conduct Review Committee. The committee was formed, following a national controversy over a first-grader being ordered to an alternative school, after he brought a camping utensil, with a knife, to school.

On Oct. 11 the New York Times reported about 6-year-old Zachary Christie, a new Cub Scout who excitedly brought a camping utensil, made up of a fork, knife and spoon, to school to show his friends and eat his lunch and was subsequently punished to 45 days at the district’s reform school.
